The Golden Rule in Bible Reading
What should we be trying to do in Bible reading? We know the ultimate goal of Christian Bible reading is the worship of God by the blood-bought bride of Jesus Christ. But what does that look like in our regular, day-to-day Bible reading?
The goal of Christian Bible reading is simple. When you read, you should be trying to find what the inspired author intended to communicate by what he wrote. We might call it the Golden Rule of Bible Reading: do unto the biblical authors as you would have them do unto you. Our goal in Bible reading is not always easy to achieve, but it is straightforward. What did the author of this verse — or this chapter, or book — intend to communicate to his audience?
