Deepest Sorrows, Sweetest Joys
Audio Transcript
God is fully sovereign over the disasters and the disappointments of our lives, and he is able to make every one of them serve our everlasting joy. He is sovereign enough that he is able to take every last trial, hardship, and disappointment and make all of them serve our eternal happiness.
This sovereign grace is the ground of your joy in sorrow. But you don’t have to wait until you’re through the heartbreak. It’s not after your sorrows, but even in the sorrows of deep disappointment, that you can find joy in Jesus — perhaps even sweeter joy than you would without your weakness.
Christian Hedonists don’t merely pursue joy after sorrow. We pursue joy in sorrow and in disappointment. The theme of our lives should be “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing” (2 Corinthians 6:10).
