Pride Poisons Ethnic Harmony
Pride poisons ethnic harmony. From white supremacy to black power, race relations are rife with pride. Where it holds sway, we have no hope to ease racial tensions. Pride will never make room for the patient conversations we need today to heal the racial wounds of our neighborhoods, our country, and our world. But God hates pride (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5), and he has paved a path to destroy it.
The cross of Christ kills pride. We were all far from God once, but by the very blood of Jesus, God has brought us near to him again (Ephesians 2:13). When Jesus died for us, he covered the sins of Jew, Gentile, and every other ethnicity (Ephesians 2:16). Every tribe, tongue, and nation — every ethnicity and culture — comes to God through the cross. There is no other way.
With the cross as the great equalizer, no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8–10). True ethnic harmony begins with the gospel.
