A Web Pioneer’s Wild Dream
Dear Friends,
It may surprise you the way the Desiring God website began. That’s what this video is about: how one ordinary man got an extraordinary vision from God. I hope the story of Moe Bergeron inspires you.
For decades, Moe was a factory worker and bi-vocational pastor on the rugged spiritual soil of New England. He was one of the first to believe in the power and potential of computers “talking” to each other, and he may have been the first that dared to dream about a radical new way to freely spread the gospel.
As I think about the reach of the Desiring God website today, I am stunned with gratitude and amazement. In the last 12 months we’ve seen nearly 20 million visits to our site, and over the last three years, we’ve had traffic grow by almost 60%. And it's not just the visits that amaze us; the most gratifying thing is the steady stream of stories about people being saved and lives turned around for Jesus.
Anything that has been lasting and spiritual we owe finally to God. But he has given us the joy of participating in his glorification in this world. If you have in any way been touched or helped by our message, I'm inviting you to be a part of the ministry in giving here at the end of the year. We are asking the Lord to put it in the heart of our friends to joyfully give $745,000, which represents 17.94% of our $4,152,253 annual budget.
We have much yet to do, and I think the greatest days are yet ahead for the impact of Desiring God for the glory of Christ and the good of his church. Thank you for joining us in our mission.
With overflowing gratitude,
John Piper
