Karen Hieb

Position: Manager for Resource Development

What do you do at Desiring God?

I am the project manager for the children’s division of Desiring God. My primary responsibility is to facilitate the process of bringing CDG resources from conception to completion. I work with authors, designers, printers, and others on our CDG team to ensure that products meet high quality standards, and that we stay within a predetermined budget and schedule. I also work with promotions, record-keeping, and special events, such as our CDG National Conference.

How long have you been involved with DG?

I started on June 14, 2004.

Place of birth:

Denison, Iowa

Favorite writers:

In addition to Pastor John’s writing, my favorites include J.R.R. Tolkien, George McDonald, C.S. Lewis, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Corrie Ten Boom, Randy Alcorn, and Jan Karon.

Favorite John Piper quote:

"Above all the animals humans are created in the image of God with thought and language beyond all comparison. This gift is not gratuitous. It is meant to make the glory of God known. If He wills we live. If He wills we act. We have minds and tongues to speak this truly for all the world to hear." (Life As A Vapor, page 31.)

Family information:

My husband, Tim, and our miniature schnauzer named Charlie.

On living in Minnesota:

Tim and I both enjoy the Twin Cities. He’s a native of the area, and we both appreciate the lakes and woodlands. We also the value ethnic and cultural diversity, which is a surprising gift to find here in the Midwest.

What do you enjoy most for refreshment?

Reading at night with my husband. In addition to the Bible, we also read a variety of other types of books together every night, from biography, history, and other non-fiction, to classic literature and fantasy. We also enjoy walking and playing with our dog, Charlie, and I enjoy cooking, baking, and the textile arts, such as quilting, sewing, knitting, crochet, and embroidery.
